The Deloraine Agricultural and Pastoral Society reached a milestone on its new facilities block project with the roof being craned in recently.

Society president Lynette Gleeson said when completed, the 17 x 25 metre construction would house much needed new toilets, including one with disabled access, showers, a baby change room, state-of-the-art commercial kitchen and dining area.

“This addition to the showgrounds infrastructure is the last of the major upgrades required to ensure we remain an attractive option for current and potential users of our facilities,” Ms Gleeson said

“Thousands of people visit the site each year to attend the Deloraine Show, Tasmanian Craft Fair, Deloraine Markets and Winter Fire, and we’ve been wanting to do these upgrades for some time.

“We are very grateful to the Tasmanian Community Fund for making the funds available to get the project off the ground, with other local organisations chipping in to ensure the fixtures and fittings make for an investment that lasts.”

TCF Chair Sally Darke said the TCF Board were excited to see the roof going on to the structure that would have a positive long-term benefit for the Meander Valley community.

“This facilities block will ensure the Deloraine Showgrounds meet the expectations of the 50,000 visitors to the site each year, and the users of the site can continue to rely on this important community infrastructure,” Ms Darke said.
